Dear Mr Farron
Could I ask for your help in stopping the destruction of one of the most beautiful parts of the Lake District by recreational 4x4s and motorbikes?
In recent years two green lanes between High Oxenfell and Hodge Close and High Tilberthwaite and Bridge End near Little Langdale have become a magnet for off-roaders. Their vehicles have destroyed parts of these ancient tracks and, more importantly, they have blighted this part of the Lakes with their noise and exhaust fumes and by forcing walkers, cyclists and horse-riders off the tracks.
The Lake District National Park Authority has encouraged this traffic through the Hierarchy of Trail Routes and is now clearly failing to carry out its statutory duty to conserve the area.
I would be grateful if you could help persuade the LDNPA to change its policy on off-road driving on these green lanes and impose Traffic Regulation Orders, as demanded by over300,000 signatories to the online petition “Save a beautiful part of the Lake District from destruction by off-road motor vehicles”.
Yours sincerely
